Ignore the 3-month myth. Spend what you can without stress. $2,000–$8,000 is the real-world sweet spot.
Average US women's ring size is 6–6.5. When in doubt, go slightly larger — resizing up is easier than down.
CUT. A well-cut diamond sparkles more than a bigger, poorly-cut one. Prioritize cut above everything else.

Beautiful lab-grown diamonds, moissanite, or gemstone rings. Plenty of stunning options.
The sweet spot. Great natural or lab-grown diamonds, excellent cut quality, popular styles.
Premium natural diamonds, more carat weight, custom or semi-custom designs.

- Choose lab-grown over natural — same look, 50–70% less cost
- Go just under round numbers (0.9ct vs 1.0ct — looks identical, costs less)
- Choose G–H color instead of D–F (invisible difference to the naked eye)
- Choose VS2 or SI1 clarity instead of VVS (flaws are microscopic)
- Consider an oval or elongated shape — looks larger per carat than round

Recruit a Trusted Friend
Her best friend or sister almost certainly knows exactly what she wants. They've talked about it. Buy them coffee, swear them to secrecy, and extract the intel. This is your most reliable source.
Watch What She Screenshots
If you share an Apple ID or she uses your phone, check her screenshots folder. Women screenshot rings they love constantly. It's a goldmine.
Notice What She Already Wears
Does she wear yellow gold or silver? Delicate or bold? Minimalist or layered? Her existing jewelry is a direct preview of what she wants on her finger forever.
The Jewelry Store Walk-By
Casually walk past a jewelry store together and say 'let's just look.' Watch what she gravitates toward. She'll show you exactly what she wants without knowing she's doing it.
Get Her Ring Size Covertly
Borrow a ring she already wears (on her ring finger, left hand). Trace the inside on paper or bring it to us. We'll measure it precisely. Average is size 6–6.5 — when guessing, go slightly larger.
Pro move: If you're really stuck, it's completely normal to bring her to the store together before the proposal. Tell her you want to "look at rings" — she'll know what's coming and will love being part of the process. Many couples do this. The proposal itself is still a surprise.
The 4 Cs — Decoded for Normal People
Every salesperson will throw these at you. Here's what they actually mean, and what actually matters.
Cut
MOST IMPORTANTThis is how well the diamond is shaped and polished — not the shape (round, oval, etc.), but how precisely it was cut. A well-cut diamond reflects light like a mirror. A poorly-cut one looks dull even if it's huge.
💡 Bottom line: Always prioritize Excellent or Very Good cut. This is the one C you can't compromise on.
Color
IMPORTANTDiamond color is graded D (colorless) to Z (yellow). The difference between D and G is nearly invisible to the naked eye — but the price difference is massive. G–H is the sweet spot: looks white, costs less.
💡 Bottom line: G or H color grade. You'll save thousands and she won't see the difference.
Clarity
LEAST IMPORTANTClarity measures internal flaws (inclusions). Most flaws are microscopic and invisible without magnification. VS2 or SI1 clarity looks perfectly clean to the naked eye — and costs far less than flawless grades.
💡 Bottom line: VS2 or SI1 clarity. 'Eye-clean' is all that matters. Don't pay for flaws you can't see.
Carat
SIZE MATTERS (SORT OF)Carat is weight, not size. A 1.0ct round diamond looks bigger than a 1.0ct princess cut. Oval and elongated shapes look larger per carat than round. If she wants 'big,' consider an oval or pear shape.
💡 Bottom line: Go just under round numbers — a 0.9ct costs significantly less than a 1.0ct and looks identical.
